About me
Recent things first, I’m currently working in web, maintaining a website and social media presence for a large education institution within South Australia. I’ve also worked in online media for a local news outlet.
I worked in Marketing Communications for a South Australian University between 2002 and late 2008. This involved writing and editing brochure copy, biographies, ad copy and news, as well as a lot of photography and post-production (ie Photoshop) work.
I’ve been doing freelance projects in advertising and copywriting for the past few years. I spent a few years writing SMS reviews for Virgin Mobile; this really honed the short-copy discipline for me, so I’m good with creative hooks and sharp, punchy copy.
A good deal of my experience has been in radio, having worked up from community radio in country Victoria, to community and public radio here in Adelaide, doing a couple of years as a producer at ABC 891.
I have a degree in journalism and have a direct, succinct newswriting style. I also have a Diploma in Language, majoring in French but I’m a pedant when it comes to English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
I keep a personal blog, a blog about grammar that I occasionally get back to (some posts are replicated here) and enjoy reading, writing for my own amusement and taking pictures of abandoned gloves, shoes, scarves, etc. I don’t know why.
I enjoy the spectacle of some sports but I won’t put any emotional investment in supporting a team.
I’m in Generation X. We didn’t invent sarcasm but it is our first language so we’ve come as close to perfecting it as any generation in history.
I’m always looking to learn and do better.
